Beginning Stone Carving

Cost: $45 / $25 for DAS Members, plus cash Stone purchase $20 - $65 Stone Selection: We will cover carving stone options, hardness ( Mohs Scale), color varieties, durability, Stone size considerations, Pros & Cons. Safety Concerns: Finish and Polish: Tools: Basic to advanced hand tools, techniques & proper use at multiple levels of carving experience. Cost Pros & Cons. Hands on Carving: Small stone pieces. Stones will be available for cash purchase (or paypal) range $20-$65. Stones for sale, Cash or PayPal only: Stone and Tool Resources: List and advice regarding Stone and tool purchases including options as to where to get your materials. Stone carving  with hand tools is a slow and messy process, dress appropriately. Participants should not expect to complete a carving in first session, however depending on work rate, stone size and hardness, many first time carvers do complete a small animal carving in 4-6 hours. All tools provided by the Instructor. New Stone Carvers are strongly encouraged to take the "Introduction to Stone Carving Class"  before taking other ongoing carving classes.
