About Shelly
Shelly has been an active member in the artistic community for over 25 years. Her passion for painting led her to found Elm City Artists Gallery in New Haven CT. She has helped host annual Art Studio Tours, Friday Open Studios, Pop-Up Galleries as well as activating business participation in community art. She was Studio Manager and Art Education Supervisor for Basic Inquiry, a drawing & painting studio in Vancouver Canada.
Her paintings and mixed media work have been included in community shows and galleries across Canada and the US. Her explorations have led her through classical figure, landscape painting, midcentury abstraction and contemporary explorations of materials, theory & composition.
Of her work Shelly says:
I'm inspired by nature, the figure and a love of history of artists and their painting styles!
I explore expressions of the figure & landscape thru different mediums seeking to capture fleeting memories, dreams or perhaps a slip into a different dimension. I'm always thrilled with the response of viewers and occasional intense reactions to some of these paintings!
